Your discussion of the ASCOR studio lights brought back many memories of getting started assisting in NYC in the late 70s and early 80s. Many studios still had banks of those oil-filled capacitors and the thick cables to connect them all together.

We also had older Balcar units that had these small rectangular connectors that were prone to shorts and arcs. Many a scare and an afternoon of hearing loss after a big arc.

Thanks for the tips.

In a couple of weeks I'm about to shoot some portraits of people in the worlds largest tattoo expo here in San Francisco. My idea is to setup a minimal studio on location and your experience was good input to controlling/using the light.

Best regards

Jakob
