Frank Finocchio (May 6, 1924 - Sept. 18, 2010)
My mentor and friend joined the Avedon studio in September 1953 as Studio Manager and remained in that position until leaving in early 1962.
Frank's credit line on Avedon's 1959 book Observations reads in part:
"We want to thank Frank Finocchio, a wine-loving Sicilian who sings Puccini as he works at his work of photographic printing, a craft in which he has set new standards of excellence..."
It was Frank who taught me nearly everything I know about studio lighting and darkroom magic. And about the sheer joy he brought to our work.
Thanks, Frank. It was good to know you.
That was a lovely tribute to my dad. Thank you.
